All About Me

me

So far I have been able to weasel my way out of having to say a great deal about myself , but I suppose that in order for anyone to understand the work I do they would need to know a little bit about me.

My name is April Dwiggins, and I am 31 years old. In 1995 I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Fine Art. My area of concentration was in Painting and Printmaking. Since that date, I have never had gainful employment in my field. Well, I have been a screen printer, but as low as that pays I would hardly call it "gainful" employment.

As an artist, I enjoy working with various media, especially those that utilize my drawing skills. Those are skills that I have been developing since I could hold a pencil in my stubby little fingers. Yes, I said "been developing". Contrary to what anyone may think, art is not a skill that you reach a pinnacle with. You work on it every day of your life. If you use it, you get better every day. If you don't use it, you get worse. This ain't riding a bicycle, folks.

Once you get into the gallery itself, you will notice that I don't really like to use my life experiences as subjects for my art. Very rarely will I even use it to make a statement on current events. My art is pure and total escapism for me. I like it that way. Some folks like opiates, I prefer a no.2 pencil and a sheet of printer paper. At least it's cheaper!
