All About the H2O

Watercolours are by far my favourite painting medium. There is just a marvelous loose flow to them, and the depth and range of colours is simply remarkable. It's positively metaphysical, but I won't bother you with that.

As you can see, I have began to expirement with different styles in watercolour.  One of my favourite things to do is to create something as primitive looking as possible.  My first step is to "age" the paper with various layered colour washes and then cover with rock salt to mottle the colour.  I will then spatter and blot until I reach the desired appearance.  Depending on the size of the pieces this can take up to three days or more simply treating the paper.  When I get down to the actual subject matter, I try to keep it as simple as possible, giving the impression of the animal in as few outlining brush strokes as possible.
